The Stage is set for the counting of votes tomorrow for Assembly elections held recently in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Telangana. The Election Commission has revised the date of counting for the Mizoram assembly polls from Sunday to Monday. The Commission took the decision after receiving several representations from various quarters requesting for change in the date of counting as tomorrow being a Sunday holds a special significance for the people of Mizoram.


Counting of votes in the four states is scheduled to start at 8 in the morning tomorrow.


In Telangana, counting will be held at 49 centres across the state. Polling to the 119 member Telangana legislative assembly was held on Thursday. Our correspondent has the details:


"A total 2290 candidates including 221 women and one transgender are in the fray while Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, PCC President Revant Reddy and E Rajendra of BJP are contesting from two seats each. Six MPs of Congress and BJP are contesting this time for the Assembly while over 100 sitting members are seeking re-election to the Assembly. The BRS contested all 119 seats alone while BJP allocated 8 seats to its ally Janasena while MIM contested in 9 seats. BSP contested 106 seats. Lakshmi, Akashvani News, Hyderabad."


In Rajasthan, counting will take place at 36 centers. Chief electoral officer Praveen Gupta said that around 175 companies of Central Reserve Police Force and Rajasthan Armed Constabulary teams along with local police have been deployed at the centres to avoid any untoward incident. Polling in the state was held on the 25th of last month for 199 assembly constituencies. The majority mark in the state is 100. More from our correspondent:


"The political fate of one thousand 8 hundred 62 candidates contesting the assembly elections will be decided tomorrow. These candidates include Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Rajasthan PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasara, Sachin Pilot, CP Joshi, BJP leader Rajendra Rathore, Satish Poonia, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Diya Kumari and many other stalwarts. Suspense will be over on these 199 out of 200 assembly constituencies of the state and it will be clear by tomorrow evening as to who will be the MLA from these seats. Jitendra Dwivedi, Akashwani News, Jaipur."


In Madhya Pradesh, two thousand 533 candidates are in the fray for the 230-member state Assembly for which polling was held on the 17th of last month. Our correspondent has the details:


"Counting of votes will start at 8 am in the counting centers set up in 52 district headquarters of the state. First of all, the counting of postal ballots will start from 8 AM. The number of postal ballots in Madhya Pradesh is more than 3 lakh 80 thousand. The postal ballot received by each candidate will be announced immediately after the counting of postal ballots is over. After half an hour the counting of votes recorded in EVM will start. The Election Commission has instructed all the District Election Officers, Police Commissioners to strictly follow the security norms in the counting centres. In Chhattisgarh, three-tier security arrangements have been put in place across all counting centers in 33 districts of the state. The election to the 90 member state legislative assembly was held in two phases on the 7th and 17th of November. We have a report:


"The political fate of one thousand 181 candidates will be decided by tomorrow afternoon. In 2018 assembly elections. The Congress won 68 seats while BJP managed to get 15 seats. This time, while the Congress and BJP are contesting in all the 90 seats, BSP and Gondvana Gantantra Party contested the elections in an alliance. Most of the seats are likely to witness straight contest between the Congress and the BJP. With Vikalp Sukla, Manas Pratim Sarma, Akashvani News, Raipur."

The Government today asserted that it is ready for discussion on any issue in the Winter Session of Parliament beginning Monday. Briefing media after an all-party meeting in New Delhi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said, the government has urged political parties for cooperation for the smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament during the Winter Session.


Mr Joshi said that 19 bills are scheduled to be taken up in the session which will continue till 22nd of this month.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has stressed that the country's growing economy and fast pace of development require robust and structured arbitration institutions in the country. The Vice President was speaking after inaugurating the 6th ICC India Arbitration Day in New Delhi today. Mr Dhankhar said, there has been some growth in arbitration institutions but those Institutions need to take central space and necessary changes in law are required to be effected to make them meaningful.


Earlier in the day, the Vice President delivered the prestigious Dr Rajendra Prasad Memorial Lecture of Akashvani in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Dhankhar said that India's economy as well as its global respect and credibility has increased manifold in recent years.


Talking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat programme, Vice President Dhankhar said, the programme has become Jan Ki baat.


Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Information and Broadcasting Apurva Chandra said that the prestigious Lecture is being organised since 1969 in which a range of eminent leaders and personalities have participated and expressed their views.


Prasar Bharti CEO Gaurav Dwivedi, Principal Director General, Akashvani News Dr. Vasudha Gupta and other senior officers attended the programme.

Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh today said the time has come to define "Bio-vision" for Bharat. He said the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) will fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision for Aatma Nirbhar Bharat in areas like healthcare, food, and energy needs by scaling biotech research and innovation. He added that the Indian Bio-economy recorded 13 times increase in the last ten years. Dr. Singh was addressing the first-ever meeting of the BRIC Society following its registration on the 10th of last month, after getting the Cabinet approval.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah today said the total business of Khadi crossed one lakh 35 thousand crore rupees in the financial year 2022-23. Due to bad weather and poor visibility in the National Capital, as many as 20 flights at the Delhi airport were diverted this morning. The diversions happened between 7 to 10:30 AM due to poor visibility as fog enveloped the national capital. Delhi witnessed moderate fog today, with visibility dipping to 400 metre in the morning hours.

The deep depression over SouthWest Bay of Bengal lay centered at about 450 km east-southeast of Chennai. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over South West Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. Owing to the prediction, the Weather Department has issued a yellow alert for the next three days for widespread rains and also an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Northern coastal districts of the State.

In a historic achievement for Indian chess, Vaishali Rameshbabu secured her grandmaster title by crossing 2,500 International Chess Federation ranking points during the Llobregat Open Tournament in Spain yesterday. Vaishali defeated Turkish Tamer Tarik Selbes in the second round to surpass rating. She has now become the third Indian female player to achieve this prestigious title.
