Himachal Pradesh: Rescue and relief operations continue on war footing in flood and landslide-affected areas

In Himachal Pradesh, rescue and relief operations are being carried out at a war footing in areas affected by heavy rainfall and landslides that occurred in the past few days.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhvindeer Singh Sukhhu visited the Krishnanagar ward of Shimla and assessed the extent of damage where two bodies were recovered in a landslide yesterday. They assured of all possible assistance. The Chief Minister informed that the State government is preparing a comprehensive long-term disaster plan with a provision of approximately 800 crore rupees, aimed at reducing the impact of future disasters.

In the State, during the current monsoon season till now, a total of 327 people have lost their lives and 318 have been injured in incidents related to heavy rainfall, landslides, and floods, while 38 people are still missing. Due to heavy rainfall, more than 60 lives were lost in a single day on Monday. Meanwhile, in the ongoing rescue operation in the Shiv Temple area of Summerhill, Shimla, the recovery of another body today has increased the count to 13. In the Kotkhai sub-division of Shimla district, the Baggi village of the Devgarh Panchayat is experiencing continuous land subsidence due to heavy rainfall, causing cracks in houses and putting the entire village at risk. In the Doon region of the Solan district, the Sunani and Sheel villages have experienced cracks in around two dozen houses, and some houses have been destroyed. The local administration has evacuated homes promptly and relocated affected individuals to safe places. Meanwhile, even after heavy rainfall, hundreds of roads remain blocked, and essential services like electricity and water are disrupted, causing people to face various problems. The police and local residents, along with NDRF and SDRF teams, however, are actively engaged in rescue and relief efforts.
