High-level inquiry has been ordered into lathi charge incident that took place at Antarvali Sarathi village: Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today said that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the lathi charge incident that took place at Antarvali Sarathi village in Ambad tehsil of Jalna district yesterday. The incident occurred after a protest demanding reservation for the Maratha community turned violent. He said strict action will be taken against the guilty policemen. Mr. Pawar has also appealed to the citizens of the state to maintain peace.

Police officers resorted to lathi charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the violent mob yesterday in Antarvali Sarathi village. At least a dozen police officers were injured as the protestors resorted to stone-pelting. Apart from this, several vehicles, including the state transport buses, were set on fire and were damaged.

The deputy chief minister expressed his concern about the incidents of arson and violence going on in some parts of the state and said that it needs to be stopped immediately. He has appealed to the Maratha community, leaders, functionaries and activists to cooperate in stopping these incidents and carry forward the movement peacefully.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said the state government agrees with the sentiments of the Maratha community and has taken serious note of the incident. He added that the state government is ready to discuss with the leaders of the Maratha community to find a solution to this issue.
