High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay inaugurated the India-Alumni Art Exhibition at the University of Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo today. The 3 day exhibition titled ‘Chitralekha’ the J.D.A. Perera Art Gallery, coincides with the Year of India Alumni. The exhibition showcases the exceptional works of Sri Lankan artists who studied in India. They include renowned names like Ananda Samarakoon and Somabandu Vidyapathi among others. Mr. Baglay met the artists who shared their experiences in India with him. The exhibition also commemorates significant milestones, including the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka and 25th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre.
Over the last five decades, 25 contemporary Sri Lankan artists have pursued their studies at various Indian universities through scholarship programs.
