Heatwave Prompts Closure of Educational Institutions in Kerala, Public Urged to Take Precautions

Amidst the rising temperatures and warnings of heatwaves in Kerala, educational institutions, including professional colleges, will be shut until Monday. The decision was made in the meeting of the Disaster Management Authority chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to review the heatwave situation in the state. People have been urged to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm. As per the decision, the vacation classes for students should not be conducted between 11 am and 3 pm.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast that the heatwave will continue to prevail over Alappuzha, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Kozhikode districts until tomorrow. The IMD has declared yellow alerts in four districts. The maximum temperature in Palakkad district is likely to rise up to 40 degrees Celsius, and in Kollam, Thrissur, and Kozhikode districts, it is likely to rise to 39 degrees Celsius.
