The coastal areas of Maharashtra have been experiencing heat wave-like conditions since Monday. Coastal districts such as Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Thane and Raigad are experiencing significantly high temperatures. As per IMD data, the maximum temperature in Ratnagiri was recorded as 38.9 degrees Celsius, which is 7.7 degrees Celsius higher than normal temperature. At 38.7 degrees Celsius, Santacruz in Mumbai recorded the second-highest temperature in the region which is 7.1 degrees Celsius higher than normal temperature.
Our correspondent reports that the Konkan meteorological subdivision is experiencing temperature departures of more than 5 degrees Celsius. This condition is likely to prevail for the next 48 hours. Met Department has issued a heatwave alert for coastal districts till Friday. Other parts of state are also likely to experience a temperature rise.
