Heat wave spell likely to continue over East India during next five days: IMD

The heat wave spell is likely to continue over East India during the next five days. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast that heat wave conditions will prevail in many parts of Gangetic West Bengal during the next five days and over Odisha today and tomorrow. The Met Department has also said that heat wave conditions are likely in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during the next five days and over Jharkhand on the 25th of April. Severe heat Wave conditions are also likely in isolated pockets of Odisha tomorrow and in Gangetic West Bengal in the next five days.

 

Yesterday, maximum temperatures were in the range of 42 to 46 degrees Celsius over many parts of Gangetic West Bengal, over some parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, and in isolated pockets over East Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, and East Madhya Pradesh. The Met Department has forecast that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over Northwest India during the next 24 hours, and temperatures will rise gradually by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius after this.

 

Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, and gusty winds, is likely to occur in isolated places in northeast India until April 24. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been observed at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur.
