National People’s Power MP, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has been sworn in as Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister.

Dr. Amarasuriya was sworn in by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the presidential secretariat today afternoon, a day after Mr. Dissanayake himself was sworn in as the President. Notably Dr. Amarasuriya is the third woman Prime Minister of the island after Sirimavo Bandaranaike and Chandrika Kumaratunga. NPP parliamentarian Vijitha Herath was also sworn in as cabinet ministers. In addition, new Secretaries in 15 ministries were also appointed.
