Environment Minister, Bhupender Yadav today stated that the Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh has been notified as the 56th Tiger Reserve of the country. In a post on the social media platform, the Minister said Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve is spread over 2,829 sq km. Chhattisgarh government, on the advice of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, notified the Guru Ghasidas -Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve.
Our correspondent reports that the tiger reserve includes a critical tiger habitat of 2049.2 sq. km, comprising the Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary, and has a buffer of 780.15 sq.kms. This makes it the third largest tiger reserve in the country after Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve in Andhra Pradesh and Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam.
