In the World Chess Championship, Indian Grandmaster Dommaraju Gukesh and his opponent, defending champion Ding Liren of China, will face off in the eighth game of the 14-game series this afternoon at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.
Yesterday, the seventh game of the summit clash ended in a draw after 72 moves, as Gukesh could not convert a clear advantage into a win. This is now the longest game of the series so far, lasting five hours and 20 minutes.
At the halfway stage of the championship, both players have won one game each and drawn four, leaving them tied at 3.5 points apiece. Each player still needs four more points to win the championship.
