Gujrat government announces relief package for flood-hit farmers

The Gujarat government today announced a special relief package for farmers hit by floods in the districts of Bharuch, Narmada, and Vadodara between 16 and 18 September. The package has been announced based on the report of the estimated damages caused to standing crops in the three districts due to flooding.

AIR correspondent said that farmers who have incurred 33 percent or more loss of agricultural and horticultural crops for the ongoing Kharif season will be given the benefits of the package. The benefit will be given to farmers in the villages declared as affected by the district administration. As per SDRF norms, Farmers will get Rs 8,000 in addition to Rs 17,000 per hectare for irrigated agriculture and rainfed horticulture crops. For non-irrigated agricultural crops, affected farmers will get assistance of Rs 8,500 per hectare as per the SDRF norms. Apart from this, assistance will also be given for perennial crops. Payments of the relief package will be made through DBT to the accounts of the beneficiaries. The affected farmers will have to apply online on the ‘Digital Gujarat Portal’ by October 31 to avail the benefits.
