The Gujarat government has announced a reduction in the motor vehicle tax rate on electric vehicles from the existing 6 percent to only 1 percent, offering a 5 percent rebate. The decision has been made to boost electric vehicle adoption, protect the environment, and promote the tourism sector. This green initiative, valid until 31st March next year, is now live on the VAHAN 4.0 portal. Additionally, the previously applicable tax rates of 8 percent and 12 percent on passenger vehicles classified under the maxi category have been revised to a uniform rate of 6 percent, based on the seating capacity of the vehicles.
