Gujarat: Heavy rains continue in several parts, IMD issues red alert

Heavy rains continue to lash several parts of Gujarat on fourth consecutive day. Several districts of Saurashtra especially Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot and Kutch district recorded very heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours.

 

Our correspondent reports that although the intensity of rains was reduced in flood affected regions of Central Gujarat especially Vadodara, a large number of areas are still under water and relief and rescue operation is underway. Our correspondent reports that at least 25 people lost their lives in the rain related incidents in the state during the last four days.

 

Devbhoomi Dwarka district recorded widespread heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. Bhanwad in Devbhoomi Dwarka recorded the highest above 10 Inches of rainfall followed by Kalyanpur, Dwarka and Khambhaliya tehsils which received more than 8 inches of rainfall. Over 17 thousand people were evacuated from the flood affected region yesterday with over 5000 were relocated from Vadodara city alone. After the flood water reaching the residential areas, nearly 1200 people stranded in water were rescued in Vadodara. The additional 4 columns of Indian Army and five NDRF teams have been deployed in Vadodara yesterday for the relief and rescue Meanwhile IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Saurashtra Kutch region today.
