Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal today emphasised the self-regulation by the diamond industry to maintain its standards and quality. Replying to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister said the government will not interfere too much with the industry, especially with the sectors which were left open and support self-regulation. Mr Goyal said the diamond exports came down a little during the last four years due to many reasons. However, the minister said there is not much change in the overall value of diamond exports. He said the demand for lab-grown diamonds from India is growing and the government is taking all measures for maintaining quality in the form of certification and others. He added that the jewellery exports have not come down from the country. Mr Goyal also said the country is continuously pursuing the G-7 countries on traceability issues.
Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, today said the exports from the country are expected to cross 800 billion US dollars by the end of the current financial year. Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, the minister said it is expected to be the highest ever as the exports witness a historic rise exceeding about 800 billion US dollars in 2024-25. He attributed this growth to the expanding role of the country in global trade, driven by strong performances in both merchandise and services exports.
