India becomes second largest country in fish production: Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh

The Government has said, India has become the second largest country in fish production because of the robust financial and technical support to the farmers by this regime.

 

Replying to the supplementaries in the Lok Sabha during the Question Hour, Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh said, the fisheries sector has witnessed a 126 per cent growth under this government.

 

 

The Minister said, in 2013-14, the fish production in the country was 95.7 lakh tons and in 2023-24, the production figures stand at more than 184 lakh tons annually. He said, during the off season of 2-3 months, the central government, the state governments and the beneficiary itself contribute an amount of 1500 Rupees each to keep the finances running.

 

Mr Singh said, the government is committed for the welfare of the fish farmers and is making all efforts for the welfare of this community. He further said, there are set guidelines provided in the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and whatever proposals are sent by the states, it is evaluated as per these guidelines and accordingly pursued. He said that the state governments must implement the different central schemes for the benefit of the farmers in general and the fish farmers in particular.
