The government has issued a draft notification mandating the installation of air-conditioning systems in the cabins of Trucks, manufactured from 1st January 2025 onwards. In a tweet, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that truck drivers play a crucial role in ensuring road safety. He said, this decision marks a significant milestone in providing comfortable working conditions for truck drivers, thereby improving their efficiency and addressing the problem of driver fatigue.
The Ministry said installation of air-conditioning system in the cabins of motor vehicles belonging to categories N2 and N3 will be mandatory. The N2 category motor vehicles are goods carriages of 3.5 tons, while N3 exceed 12 tons.
It has invited suggestions from the stakeholders within 30 days from the date of notification.
