The government today informed that the Grievance Appellate Committees under IT Rules 2021 have filed one thousand 65 cases since their inception from 1st March 2023 to 30th June 2024. It has also disposed of nine hundred thirty-seven cases during the same period. This information was given by the Minister of State for Electronic & Information Technology, Jitin Prasada, in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today. Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (IT Rules 2021) was notified by the government in February 2021. It casts specific legal obligations on intermediaries, including significant social media intermediaries, to ensure their accountability towards a safe and trusted internet.
