Govt implemented Coastal Security Scheme to strengthen security of coastal areas: MoS Nityanand Rai

Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai has said that the government has taken several steps for training, capacity building and modernisation of coastal police.

 

Replying in Lok Sabha today, Mr Rai said, Central Government has implemented the Coastal Security Scheme to strengthen the security of coastal areas against sea borne threats under which 204 Coastal Police Stations have been operationalized. He said, the Coastal Police personnel are trained at Coast Guard Training Centre, Kochi and at Coast Guard District Headquarters in all coastal states and Union Territories. He said, 13 thousand 879 Coastal Police personnel have been trained till date.

 

Mr. Rai said, Indian Coast Guard conducts Joint Coastal Patrolling with Coastal Police. The Minister said, Coastal Police personnel are also trained by Indian Navy in Naval establishment in specialised areas of sea-faring such as seamanship, navigation and boat-handling.
