All public sector banks in the country are in profit and the government has no plans to merge or disinvest public sector banks in the current financial year. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha the Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Karad said that during the financial year 2022-23 all public sector banks declared net profit aggregating to 1 lakh 5 thousand crore rupees. He said that over 7.70 lakh Banking Correspondents have been engaged by scheduled commercial banks and public sector banks to provide customers easy access to services including in rural and backward and remote areas of the country. He further informed that to improve digital access RuPay cards have been issued to more than 33 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna customers and 7.34 crore Kisan Credit Cards have been issued to farmers to meet their production credit requirements.
