The Government has rejected media reports regarding the shortage of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) across the country saying that such reports are misleading and devoid of factual position. In a press release, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has clarified that subsidy on DAP has not been reduced at all and its Maximum Retail Price, MRP has been maintained at one thousand 350 rupees per 50 Kilogram bag since Covid times.
It added that for the benefit of farmers, an increase in the subsidy of DAP has been effected for Rabi 2024 by Union Cabinet decisions. The Ministry said, in addition to this, the total budgetary allocation for Rabi 2024-2025 has been increased to 24 thousand 475 crore rupees. The Ministry mentioned that the availability of DAP has been affected somewhat by several geo-political factors including the long route taken by the vessels through Cape of Good Hope instead of Red sea. However, intensive efforts have been made by the Department of Fertilizers to augment the availability substantially during the period of September to November this year.
