Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Banwari Lal Verma today said that the government is committed to working for the betterment of specially-abled people. Addressing an event on the occasion of Sign Language Day in New Delhi, Mr Verma said the government is trying to remove the stigma around the differently abled and bring them into the mainstream.
The Minister lauded the Paralympic athletes for their success in Paris and said that they have become role models for the youth and children of this country.
The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre under the aegis of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, organised the event in the capital. The theme of this year’s Sign Language Day-2024 is ‘Sign up for Sign Language Rights’.
During the event, the ministry also launched educational and informative materials for the Specially abled people which include 2500 terms of Indian Sign Language, 100 concept videos and a dictionary in 10 languages.
