Govt aims to work towards achieving zero stubble burning in current season: Agriculture Minister N.S Tomar

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said the government aims to work towards achieving zero stubble burning in the current season. Mr. Tomar was addressing a review meeting in New Delhi, which was held to prevent paddy stubble burning. The meeting was attended by Agriculture Ministers of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi with an objective to prevent paddy stubble burning in the current season. He said, instances of paddy stubble burning are coming down due to the efforts of all the stakeholders.
 
Speaking on the occasion, the Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said, efforts to prevent paddy stubble burning for the last five years are bearing good results. He said, due to the concerted efforts of agencies like Commission for Air Quality Management, stubble burning instances in the States of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and NCT of Delhi have come down.
 
During the meeting, the States presented their action plans and strategies for preventing stubble burning in the current season. The States were advised to utilize the funds provided for crop residue management. and make Crop Residue Management (CRM) machinery available well before harvesting season. They were also asked bring awareness amongst farmers against paddy stubble burning.
