The Government has advised the Airport operators of all the Brownfield airports with scheduled operations to work towards achieving carbon neutrality and Net Zero emissions. In a written reply to Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V.K.Singh said that suggestions have been given to them to adopt Carbon mitigation measures as well as Carbon management plans. The Minister said that airport operators have also undertaken initiatives to transition to a hundred percent green energy by incorporating on-site solar capacity, procuring renewable energy through open access, and adopting green power. The Minister informed that 55 airports including 49 airports managed by the Airport Authority of India operate on 100 percent green energy. To another question, he replied that the Government has accorded in-principle approval for the setting up of 21 greenfield airports across the country.
