The Government has constituted a Committee chaired by the Finance Secretary to look into possibilities of warranted changes in the existing framework and structure of the National Pension System, as applicable to government employees.
In a written reply in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary said that committee will suggest measures if there are any to modify the pension system with a view to improving upon the pensionary benefits of government employees covered under the National pension System, keeping in view the fiscal implications and impact on overall budgetary space.
The committee was formed in pursuance of the announcement made by the Finance Minister in the Lok Sabha on 24 march this year with Finance Secretary as Chairman and its members include Secretary, of Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Special Secretary (Pers), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance and Chairman of Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (GFRDA).
