Global Maritime India Summit 2023 will serve as a platform to showcase global best practices: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal today said that the Global Maritime India Summit – GMIS 2023 will serve as a platform to showcase global best practices. Addressing the curtain raiser event of GIMS 2023 in Mumbai, Mr. Sonowal said that the summit will serve as a catalyst for investment, collaboration, innovation, and promotion of opportunities in India’s maritime sector.
 
Mr. Sonowal said India aspires to become a global leader in the maritime sector and is looking to foster collaboration, embrace innovation, and leverage technology for this purpose. He added India stands firm on its commitment to developing environmentally conscious shipping solutions. Mr. Sonowal said India’s maritime sector offers identified investment opportunities of more than ten lakh crore rupees with a capacity to generate employment for more than 15 lakh people.
Stating that India’s maritime sector has long been a driving force behind our nation's economic growth, Mr. Sonowal said the government’s dedicated efforts in the past nine years and reform initiatives have been instrumental in enhancing port capacity, facilitating port-led industrialization, enhancing coastal shipping, reviving inland waterways and making India self-reliant in shipbuilding, repair, and recycling.
 
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister of State for Ports Shipping and Waterways, Mr. Shripad Naik said the Sagarmala initiative has been at the forefront of India’s infrastructure growth, strategically advancing trade and logistics and positioning the nation as a maritime leader.
 
The Curtain Raiser event saw the unveiling of the official brochure for the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 along with launch of the Website and Mobile App for Global Maritime India Summit 2023.
 
The third edition of Global Maritime India Summit will be held from 17th to 19th October 2023, at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
