Giriraj Singh attends Shilp Didi Mahotsav in New Delhi

Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh attended the Shilp Didi Mahotsav today, which is ongoing at Delhi Haat in New Delhi from the 16th to the 31st of August. This fortnight-long event showcases handicraft creations from all over the country, offering the art-loving public a glimpse of various crafts marketed by the Shilp Didis.

During his visit, the Textiles Minister also interacted with the artisans to understand their challenges and encouraged them to further develop entrepreneurship. He advised the craftswomen to utilise social media in their economic journey.

The primary objective of the program is to foster economic empowerment and financial independence among female artisans throughout India.

Talking to Akashvani, Kantha artist Shipra Ghosh from Kolkata mentioned that her family has been pursuing this art as a business for four generations. They have been producing hand-printed silk, shawls, and dupattas.

Bihar’s Madhubani artist Sapna expressed gratitude for the interaction with the textiles minister in her native language, Maithili. She said that the Shilp Didi event has provided a great opportunity for showcasing their work.

Pattachitra artist Jyotshna from Odisha also expressed her appreciation for being part of the program. She said the event has given her a valuable platform to showcase her artistic skills.
