Women entrepreneurs comprise eight percent of the total seller base at the Government e-Marketplace platform with over one crore 77 lahks registered Udyam-verified women micro and small enterprises. These entrepreneurs have fulfilled a cumulative order value of over 46 thousand crore rupees. GeM is an online platform for public procurement in India that was launched on the 9th of August with the objective of creating an open and transparent procurement platform for government buyers.
GeM has transformed public procurement in the country by promoting transparency, efficiency, and inclusiveness. By empowering startups, women entrepreneurs, and MSMEs, GeM fosters economic growth and social equity.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the platform’s strategic initiatives, such as SWAYATT, Startup Runway 2.0, and Womaniya, have significantly contributed to the ease of doing business and enhanced participation in government procurement. GeM remains committed to its vision of creating a sustainable, open, and competitive marketplace, driving India’s progress towards inclusive and transparent public procurement practices.
The platform showcases a robust ecosystem with over one lakh 62 thousand primary buyers, over two lakh 28 thousand secondary buyers, and a diverse range of over 11 thousand product categories and 332 service categories. The ministry added that in the last financial year, the order volume reached around 63 lakh with a value of four lakh crore rupees.
