G20 Summit: Nifty hits 20,000 mark first time ever

National Stock Exchange's (NSE) benchmark index, Nifty 50, hit the 20,000 mark for the first time today, on the following day of the G20 Summit. NSE’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ashishkumar Chauhan said it reflects the increasing trust the world has in the leadership of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the capabilities of all Indians.

Mr Chauhan remarked that it is a testament to the trust Indian and foreign investors place in India's capital markets and regulatory and legal system to provide a fair, efficient, transparent, low-cost, always available, orderly marketplace that is better than the best in the world and thought as well as execution leaders in the world not only in terms of trading technologies but also in corporate governance.

The Nifty 50's progressed over the last 27 years since it was launched at 1000 shows. The rally within Nifty was driven by strong performances in the financial sector, with several leading banking and financial services companies contributing significantly to the index's gains.
