As part of India’s G 20 presidency, B 20 meeting began in Surat today in the presence of the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbanand Sonowal.
Addressing the global business leaders at B 20, the Minister said under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has not only become the fifth largest economy in the world but also emerged as a major investment destination. Affirming the Government’s commitment towards strengthening the infrastructure in the country, the Minister said the capital expenditure on infrastructure has increased substantially over the past nine years. Mr. Sonowal also said during the last nine years, a favourable atmosphere has been created for the industries to flourish. He said that India has also become a global centre of excellence in digital infrastructure.
The Minister also shared the growth of the green maritime sector of the country and the development of river cruises, the growth of maritime trade as well as the remarkable development of traditional AYUSH medicine in the country. Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi briefed the business leaders about the growth of infrastructure and the potential for industries in Gujarat.
Nearly 200 delegates from G 20 countries representing banking, Textiles, finance, and diamond are attending the meeting.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for business leaders to share their insights and policy recommendations on various business economic topics. The first plenary session of the meeting will discuss Opportunities for Trade, Investment in diamonds, Textiles, and chemical industries for Global Value Chain.
