Frontier Kupwara district in north Kashmir, which is part of 1-Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency, has extended home-voting facility for voters aged 85-years plus and PwD (specially abled /Divyanjans) today. A total of 402 registered elderly and PwD electors of the district with over 40 percent locomotive disabilities from across all the six assembly segments of the district are exercising their right to vote from their homes through first of its kind home-voting facility. It is important to mention that District Kupwara is going for polls on May 20 during the 5th phase of Lok Sabha Elections-2024.
Under ‘home voting’ facility, which is a pathbreaking initiative of ECI, poll parties along with necessary materials are dispatched to the houses of eligible voters where they collect the votes of eligible persons at their doorsteps.
District Election Officer Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan said that the facility of home voting has been availed by elderly citizens above 85 years of age and specially-abled persons (PwDs), with 40 percent disability criteria.
The Home Voting process commenced in Kupwara district today from 8 AM and will continue upto Thursday covering all the six assembly segments of the district. These assembly segments include 1-Karnah, 2-Trehgam, 3-Kupwara, 4-Lolab, 5-Handwara and 6-Langate.
