Four children have died due to suspected Chandipura virus infection during the treatment at Himmat Nagar Civil Hospital in Sabarkantha, Gujarat. Two other children are undergoing treatment for Chandipura at Himmat Nagar Civil Hospital. The blood samples of all these children have been sent to the National Institute of Virology for confirmation and reports are awaited.
Meanwhile, the State Health Department held a meeting in Gandhinagar on Saturday to review the spread of the Chandipura virus in various districts including Sabarkantha, Arvalli, Kheda and Mahisagar. Talking to Akashvani, the additional director of the Gujarat Health Department, RB Patel said the department has instructed all the affected districts to carry out surveillance to prevent the spread of the virus.
