Former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr. Kiran Bedi today called upon stakeholders to conduct extensive research to strengthen the Menstrual health management system. Addressing the Menstrual Hygiene Management Conclave, organized by ASSOCHAM in New Delhi, Dr. Bedi said that policy intervention is extremely pivotal. Dr. Bedi emphasised that Sanitary pads are also a necessity for women just like water and gas. Talking about the access to menstrual products in prisons, she expressed concern over the issue and called for immediate action.
Also present on the occasion, Director, Office of Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, Urvashi Prasad emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to address menstrual health management comprehensively. She highlighted the importance of Centre-State coordination for effective policy interventions. Ms. Prasad stressed that menstrual health and hygiene initiatives must be inclusive, catering to the queer community and people with disabilities.
Special Secretary, IT and Electronics, Uttar Pradesh government, Neha Jain highlighted the significant strides made by government policies in ensuring menstrual health management. She urged corporations to fund research and education initiatives.
