A meeting of the Food Secretaries States and Food Corporation of India was held in New Delhi to discuss arrangements for the procurement of crops in the ensuing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25. The secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Sanjeev Chopra, chaired the meeting that was held yesterday. The meeting discussed several ongoing initiatives of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, which included supply chain optimization of the public distribution system, infrastructure improvement in procurement centres, Jan Poshan Kendras, and workflow automation for the release of food subsidies to the States. After deliberations, the estimates for paddy procurement of (Kharif Crop) during the ensuing KMS 2024-25 have been fixed at 485 lakh metric tons in terms of rice compared to the procurement of 463 lakh metric tons during the last KMS
