In Bihar, several incidents of breach and seepage have been reported on embankments due to the pressure of flood water in the Supaul, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, and Sheohar districts. High pressure is being witnessed on embankments following the massive discharge from Kosi and Gandak barrages.

District Magistrate of Supaul, Kaushal Kumar, said a receding trend is being observed in the Kosi River after a record water discharge of 6.61 lakh cusecs this morning. He said engineers are vigilant to prevent erosion.

The floodfighting team repaired the breach on the West Kosi embankment in Supaul after getting information about the incident. An incident of breach also occurred in West Champaran district in Bagha block one. Repair work is underway to address the problem.

Due to the massive pressure of the Bagmati river in the Sheohar district, a major portion of the embankment was breached this evening in the Tariyani block. Flood water has entered several houses in Tariyani Chapra village. The major damage in the embankment may cause floods in Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur districts.

Cases of water leakage and seepage have also been reported on different embankments of the Kosi and Gandak rivers. More than 1.5 lakh people have been affected by floods after the massive discharge of water from two major barrages of the state. Patrolling has been intensified on embankments, and several villagers have been evacuated to safer places and relief camps.

Additional Chief Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, Pratyaya Amrit, today reviewed the flood situation in the state. He directed all the disaster management forces to remain in alert mode to tackle any kind of eventuality.
