In Punjab bright sunshine today gave some respite to people from heavy rain for the past few days but the flood situation seems to be more grim as the different rivers continue to receive water from Himachal Pradesh due to rain in the hill state. In coordination with authorities, army teams are working round the clock in several districts for the evacuation of marooned people and to fill the breaches that occurred in different rivers due to flood water.
The state Chief Secretary Anurag Verma held a meeting with officials and directed the respective district administrations that wherever people are struck due to low-lying areas or waterlogging, they should be evacuated safely and alternative arrangements for food, drink, and accommodation should be made on war footing.
AIR correspondent reports that the water level in Ravi, Beas, and Satluj rivers continues to rise after rain in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh. The water level in Ranjit Sagar Dam has been recorded at 522 meter which is merely five meter less than the danger level. Similarly, the water level in Bhakhra Dam is also increasing slowly.
The Dhussi bundh on Satluj river in Shahkot division of Jalandhar district has been breached at three places flooding several villages while a motorcyclist washed away in the flood water in the wee hours. In the Ludhiana district also the flood water has caused damage in Tajpur area after a breach in Buddha Naala. Seven villages in Dera Baba Nanak area of Gurdaspur district have been cut off by road connectivity with the rest of the country due to rise in the water of Ravi River.
