First meeting of ‘One Nation, One Election’ committee will be held on 23rd September, says Ram Nath Kovind

In Bhubaneswar, Former President Ram Nath Kovind today said that the first meeting of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ committee will be held on 23rd of this month. The former President told this to media persons at Bhubaneswar while he was on a day's visit to the Odisha capital to attend the convocation of a private university. 
 
The committee will examine and make recommendations for holding simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha, state assemblies, municipalities, and panchayats. This came after the Centre, on 2nd of this month, notified the eight-member committee headed by former President Kovind to make recommendations keeping in view the existing framework under the Constitution of India and other statutory provisions.
 
The members of the committee are Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, former chairman of 15th Finance Commission NK Singh, former Lok Sabha General Secretary Subash Kashyap, senior advocate Harish Salve and former chief vigilance commissioner Sanjay Kothari. Minister of State for Law, Arjun Ram Meghwal, will also attend the meetings as a special invitee.
