Film made by FTII Pune student wins top prize of La Cinef Award at 77th Cannes Film Festival

A film made by a student of Films and Television Institute of India, FTII Pune, has won the top prize of La Cinef Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The film directed by FTII student, Chidananda Naik is titled “Sunflowers were the first ones to know ”.  It is based on a popular Kannada folklore of an elderly woman stealing a rooster after which the sun does not rise. La Cinef consisted of 18 student films, chosen out of 2263 entries by film schools all over the world.

 

 The film was produced as part of FTII’s year end coordinated exercise of TV- wing. Suraj Thakur handled camera, Manoj V did the editing and Sound was by Abhishek Kadam.
