Benchmark equity indices ended flat today in a choppy trading session. The BSE Sensex rose by 17 points or 0.02 per cent to close at 73,896 points, while the NSE Nifty fell by 33 points or 0.15 per cent to settle at 22,443 points. Domestic equity benchmarks closed on a lacklustre note due to ongoing concerns about overvaluation in the absence of new positive catalysts and amidst mixed Q4 earnings reports.
From the Sensex basket, Kotak Mahindra Bank jumped five per cent. Tata Consultancy Services, Hindustan Unilever, Mahindra & Mahindra and Sun Pharma were among the other major gainers.
In contrast, Titan, SBI, NTPC, Power Grid and Larsen & Toubro were the major laggards.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Midcap sector slipped 0.95 per cent, while the Smallcap index fell 1.06 per cent.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, the Consumer durables Sector declined 3.85 per cent, the Oil and Gas sector fell 2.10 per cent and the Services sector slipped 2 per cent.
In contrast, the Realty sector gained 2.71 per cent, the Teck sector jumped 0.8 per cent and the IT sector rose 0.65 per cent.
