In Punjab, Elections to five Municipal Corporations and 598 Wards of the Municipal Councils or Nagar Panchayats will be held on 21st of December. The voting will be held from 07.00 A.M. to 04.00 P.M and counting will take place the same day. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used for polling.
Punjab State Election Commission Raj Kamal Chaudhuri told media that adequate security arrangements have been made for smooth polling at 1609 polling locations having 3809 booths. 344 polling locations have been identified as Hypersensitive and 665 as Sensitive. With the announcement of the Election Schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the poll bound Municipal Bodies.
A total of 37,32,636 registered voters are eligible to vote in these elections. However, the total number of voters is subject to modification on account of the special revision carried out yesterday.
