Election Commission reschedules voting day for Haryana Assembly elections to 5th October; Counting of votes for both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections to take place on 8th October

The Election Commission today revised the polling date for the Haryana Assembly polls. Voting will now be held on October 5 instead of October 1. The Poll Body, in a statement, said that representations were received from national political parties, a state political party, and the All India Bishnoi Mahasabha regarding the mass movement of people from the Bishnoi community of Haryana to Rajasthan to participate in the centuries-old Asoj Amavasya festival celebration.

The Commission said it may deny voting rights to a large number of people and may reduce voter participation in the general election to the Legislative Assembly of the state. The Commission, having considered these representations, has decided to change the date of the poll to October 5.

The Election Commission also announced that the counting of votes for both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir will be held on October 8 instead of October 4.
