Election Commission today barred Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala from campaigning for 48 hours over his remarks against BJP leader Hema Malini. Mr Surjewala has been banned from holding any public meetings, rallies, road shows and interviews as well as public appearances in media for 48 hours starting from 6 PM this evening. In its order, the Commission strongly condemned the impugned statement made by the Congress leader. Earlier , the poll panel had issued a notice to Mr. Surjewala over the issue. The Congress leader had made objectionable comments against Hema Malini, the BJP candidate from Mathura.
