Voting for Assembly Elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand to be held on Nov 20

In Jharkhand, elaborate security arrangements have been made for the second and final phase of the Assembly elections. 38 constituencies will go to polls in this phase tomorrow. The polling will be held from 7 am to 5 pm, while in Naxal-infested 31 booths, polling will be held up to 4 pm due to security reasons.

 

A total of 38 constituencies across 12 districts will go to polls in this phase. 528 candidates, including 55 women are in the fray. Over one crore 23 lakh electorates will decide the political fate of these candidates.

 

The Chief Electoral Officer K.Ravi Kumar has appealed to electorates to cast their vote fearlessly.

Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls. Jawans of central paramilitary forces have been deployed at each booth.

 

Security forces conducted flag marches in sensitive areas to instil confidence among electorates.

 

Inter-district border has been sealed and a joint operation has been launched in the bordering areas of Bihar and West Bengal to check infiltrators and anti-social elements. Helicopters have been pressed into service to meet any eventuality.

 

Important candidates whose political fortune will be decided are Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, State BJP President Babulal Marandi, Opposition leader Amarnath Kumar Bauri, AJSU President Sudesh Kumar Mahto and Kalpana Soren. Four Ministers Irfan Ansari, Hafizul Hasan, Deepika Pandey Singh and Bebi Devi are also in the fray.

The polling for 288 constituencies of the Maharashtra Legislative Elections is going to be held tomorrow. Along with the assembly elections, by-polls for the Nanded Lok Sabha seat are also scheduled for tomorrow. Speaking to Akashvani News, Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra, S Chockalingam said that the Election Commission has made all preparations and enough security personnel have been deployed to conduct free and fair elections in the state.
