Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said that education is the only way to attain the dream of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Addressing the National Workshop on Higher and Technical Education with Secretaries of States and Union Territories in New Delhi, the Minister emphasised the improvement of five key aspects of the education sector.
These are infrastructure, leadership, curriculum, multidisciplinary research, and vibrant campus life. Mr. Pradhan urged the representatives of States and Union Territories to take necessary steps in implementing the National Education Policy 2020 in their States and suggested making curriculum based on the special needs of each State.
The Education Minister further asserted that subjects like sports, debate, poetry, drama, and gaming were earlier considered only as co-curricular activities, but under NEP, these are becoming professional courses.
Mr. Pradhan also highlighted the importance of education in the mother tongue. Mentioning transformative educational reforms like the National Credit System and entrance-based admission, Anusandhan National Research Foundation, the Union Minister appealed for cooperation from the State administrations.
Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar also added that the National Education Policy 2020 is not only a policy but a roadmap to make India a global knowledge superpower.
The primary objective of the two-day workshop is to discuss various approaches and methodologies to implement NEP 2020 countrywide.
