The Election Commission today said that there are repeated and deliberate pressure tactics to malign its image during the ongoing Delhi Assembly polls. The poll panel added that the three-member Commission collectively observed that deliberate pressure tactics are being played as if the poll body is a single-member entity. The Commission’s comment came in the wake of repeated attacks by the Aam Aadmi Party leaders on Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.

The Poll Panel said it has decided to have constitutional restraint, absorbing such outbursts with sagacity, stoically and not to be swayed by such insinuations. In a series of social media posts, the Commission said the action on issues raised by political parties and candidates are taken in each instance by over 1 lakh 50 thousand officials in Delhi Assembly Elections. It mentioned that these officials are functioning within an established legal framework, robust processes and SoPs ensuring fair play and non-partisan conduct.
