ECI sends notices to BJP and Congress over poll code violation complaints

The Election Commission has sent separate notices to BJP and Congress over poll code violation complaints. Following complaints by BJP and Congress against each other in the ongoing assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the Election Commission sent separate letters to BJP President JP Nadda and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge today. Both parties had accused each other’s star campaigners of violating the Model Code of Conduct during campaigning for the Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly polls.

The Election Commission has sought formal responses from both parties by 1 PM on Monday. The poll body also reminded them of its earlier advisory dated 22nd May this year during Lok Sabha Elections, to keep star campaigners and leaders under check so that public decorum is not flouted and the Model Code of Conduct is followed in letter and spirit during the election campaign.
