EC hears both factions of NCP on claims to party’s name and poll symbol; next hearing on 8th October

The Election Commission today heard both factions of Nationalist Congress Party NCP over their claims to the party’s name and poll symbol, clock.
 
One faction is led by Sharad Pawar and the other one by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar. This is the first hearing of the dispute in front of the poll body. On Monday, both sides will again meet the Commission.
 
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi who was representing the faction led by Sharad Pawar, said, the hearing went on for over two hours. In the first part of the hearing, the Commission said that they are obliged to determine whether there is a dispute or not.
 
A crisis in the party came up after the faction led by Ajit Pawar had rebelled against NCP leader Sharad Pawar and moved the poll panel staking claim to the party name and symbol.
