The Election Commission has dismissed the allegations of Congress on EVMs saying that it is entirely foolproof and can not be tampered with. In reply to a question, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the Commission has received 20 complaints filed by Congress Candidates who have alleged irregularities in the battery level in Electronic Voting Machines in the recently concluded Haryana Assembly Elections. Mr Kumar ruled out any possibility of manipulation of the EVMs saying that as per the standard operating procedure, they were checked at various levels in the presence of the agents deputed by the candidates.
On Exit polls, Mr Kumar said that media associations are required to do self-introspection about exit polls, citing the huge distortion created by them. He said this is a matter of deliberation and introspection for the press, especially for electronic media. Mr Kumar also questioned television channels showing early trends on results day.
