EAM S Jaishankar visits water project built with Indian assistance in Kibamba ward of Dar es Salaam region of Tanzania

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on 7th July 2023, Friday visited the water project built with Indian assistance in the Kibamba ward of the Dar es Salaam region of Tanzania. The project supplies water to Dar es Salaam. He was joined by the Minister of Water and Irrigation of Tanzania, Jumaa Aweso. The External Affairs Minister is on a four-day official visit to Tanzania.
 
Taking to Twitter, Dr Jaishankar asserted that, bringing Indian expertise, experience, and best practices is the key to the development partnership between India and Tanzania. He said, the focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on providing clean drinking water, as seen in the Government of India's Jal Jeevan Mission, is also reflected abroad. The Minister stressed that working to the priorities of Africa, India is a partner with a difference.
 
Dr Jaishankar also paid homage to Indian soldiers at the Commonwealth War Memorial at Dar es Salaam city. In a tweet, the Minister said, the sacrifices of Indian soldiers in various theatres of war are an important aspect of its history.
 
Dr S Jaishankar also met the members of the India-Tanzania Parliamentary Friendship Group and appreciated the sentiments for stronger parliamentary, economic and people-to-people ties with India. He expressed confidence that the strong and historic ties between their two parliamentary democracies will keep growing.
 
Earlier, the Minister interacted with the members of the Indian diaspora at Dar es Salaam. Sharing the purpose of his visit, Dr Jaishankar said, the IT (India-Tanzania) mission addresses some of the most important priorities of this country. Explaining how the India-Tanzania friendship is making a difference to the lives of the average Tanzanian, Dr Jaishankar said, India's six water projects in the African country will benefit 8 million people in the country.
 
The External Affairs Minister is scheduled to co-chair the 10th India-Tanzania Joint Commission Meeting with his counterpart and call on the country’s top leadership, including several Cabinet rank Ministers. He will also inaugurate an India-Tanzania business meeting and unveil the bust of Swami Vivekananda.
