EAM Dr S Jaishankar holds talks with ASEAN Secretary General Dr Kao Kim Hourn; discusses development of comprehensive strategic partnership

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar today reached Jakarta on the first leg of his two-nation visit to Indonesia and Thailand. Dr Jaishankar began his engagements with a meeting with ASEAN Secretary General Dr Kao Kim Hourn. They discussed the development of India-ASEAN's comprehensive strategic partnership. The External Affairs Minister suggested India- ASEAN dialogues in finance, cyber and maritime domains. They noted the ongoing work in energy, disaster management and health and wellness. Dr Jaishankar and Dr Hourn agreed to expand the India-ASEAN Track II engagement. The External Affairs Minister said, our ASEAN relationship paved the way for the Indo-Pacific Vision and India is therefore deeply committed to the principle of ASEAN centrality.
 
Dr Jaishankar also held a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son today. They discussed trade and investment, energy, air connectivity and cultural cooperation. Both also exchanged views on contemporary regional and global issues.
 
He also met his Malaysian counterpart Dr Zambry Adbul Kadir. They discussed India-Malaysia expanding bilateral cooperation and also exchanged views on ASEAN-related issues. Dr Jaishankar said, he is looking forward to welcoming him to India.
 
The External Affairs Minister along with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi and Australian counterpart Penny Wong held the 2nd India-Australia-Indonesia trilateral meeting. He said, it is always a good meeting between three Indo-Pacific maritime states.
 
Dr Jaishankar also met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Lao People's Democratic Republic, Saleumxay Kommasith. They discussed regional issues of mutual concern and also reviewed bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation.
