The Centre today said that the provisions of Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ( DPDP Act) are in addition to and not in derogation of any other law for the time being in force.
In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Electronics and Information and Technology, Jitin Prasada informed that certain principles like using simple language, avoiding unnecessary cross referencing, and providing contextual definition were used in the drafting of the DPDP Act. He informed that consultation on the DPDP Rules will be done after the publication of the Draft Rules.
Mr. Prasada said that provision of illustrations and contextual definition have also been followed in the drafting of DPDP Rules. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) received the assent of the President on 11th August 2023.
The Minister said that detailed exercise were undertaken during drafting of the DPDP Act, And similar detailed exercise for the drafting of Rules has also been undertaken. He said, elaborate discussions and consultations have been done with various stakeholders including industry bodies, civil societies and government organizations while drafting the Rules.
